The sun will enter the zodiacal sign Libra oil September 23rd at 7.30 a.m.: it will then be vertically above the: equator, and day and night will then ■ he of equal length at all places on the earth. The distance of the earth from the sun on that date will be about 93,180,000 miles. The planet Mars set on Septemlier Ist at 7.8 p.m.; it is rapidly approaching the sun, with which it will bo in conjunction on September 12th at 0.30 a.m. ; towards the close ol the month it will be visible shortly before dawn • in tlio eastern sky. Venus rose oil September Ist at 1.9 a.m.. and will rise on Sept. 15th at 1.3 a.m.; during tlio month its average apparent magnitude will In—L Mars rose on September Ist at 1.13 p.m. and on September lout will rise at 3.8 p.m; Jupiter sets on these dates at 1.25 a.m. and 0.3 H a.m. respectively and Saturn at 9.1p.m. and 8.54 p.m. respectively. There will lie an oeeulation of the planet Venus by the moon on September 25tli at 2.53 p.m. and of the planet Neptune on September 2(ith at 1.11 a.m. but in neither case will the phenomenon be visible in New Zealand.
