Under rather unfavourable weather eotulitions. tlie AA'est Coast Golf Championship tourney opened at Onioto l.iuks yesterday. .Showers in the atternoon rendered the ground damp and soft, hut some gootl rounds wore done, particularly that of Master Wright (Timartt eltampionf who improved on Bogie to the extent of three in the first round of the men’s championship. The men’s shield was won from AA restport hy Grey, while in the ladies shield there was a tie. ami AA'est port Club retain the trophy. The players were provided with luncheon and afternoon tea at the Golf House, it convenience that was greatly appreciated and under the able direction of Secretary llevell the whole day’s play proceeded without, a hitch.
