The Australians were perfect overhead and accurate in pace and length. In the second set the games went with the service until Patterson lost the fifth, when the Americans led .‘5-2. Williams lost his service in the sixth and Wood in the seventh. The Americans won the set. Williams scoring with famous crosscourt placements. In the third set Patterson’s serving and overhead smashing were deadly. By breaking through Patterson’s service in the fourth set the Americans created a 5-3 lend and won the set. T« the fifth set. an extremely cold wind made the conditions unfavourable. The Australians fought hard to a -1-0 lead; then Patterson’s won the fifth with overhead placements. Washburn lost his service in the sixth.
