At the Supreme Court. A label Jacksou sued Arthur Hatch and his wife, claiming LSOO for defamation of character. Plaintiff, a married woman, worked for her living. She received an open picture postcard oi a soldier and a girl at the entrance of n shop exhibiting ladies’ underwear, while oil the placard of a passing sandwich man were printed the words: • Don t spend vour money on useless clothes. o 'without.” 'Added, in writing, were other worths of a defamatory character. Fvideuce was given that the defendant. on request, was given the postcard in question hy a iriond. and tha she later said she had posted it. After hearing the evidence of a hand writing expert the jury returned a verdict for £SOO damages.
