WHEAT FOOT,. SYDNEY, August 13. Tho N.S. Wales Cabinet have decided to join with the Federal Government in providing a guarantee to the voluntary wheat pool on account of the next harvest. It will involve a State expenditure of two hundred thousand. ANOTHER NINE YEARS. HOBART, Aug. 13. George Downs, who (as cabled on 2(itli. YOUNG MAN DETAINED. MELBOURNE. Aug. 13. The police have detained a young man in connection with tho Caulfield inurdor. RAID ON CHINESE FACTORY. SYDNEY, August 11. The biggest raid of its kind ever carried out was made by the police on a Chinese factory in Gloucester Street and it resulted in the confiscation, of opium valued at £SOO and the discovery of a large quantity of shirts valued at several hundred sterling and made from silk alleged to have been stolen from a city firm. A wealthy Chinese merchant and his son were arrested and also another Chinese. Two of the arrestees are charged with the offering of a bribe to the police.

II The wholesale warehouses in Ticemautle are deserted as a result ol a strike ot about two hundred clerks, who demanded higher wages. VOLUNTARY WHEAT FOOL. FEimi, August 13. Cabinet lias decided to submit a proposal to the Federal Government to guarantee three shillings ,uel at the siding, plus eight pence per bushel handling charges, to growers placing their wheat in the voluntary wheal pool during the coming harvest.
