For the most part the scenes are set in the Xol.son district, noted lor its marvellous heaut.v spots. In this respect the film should have the effect of an excellent piece of publicity material for the Dominion. As a matter of fact. “Venus of the South Sens” is one of the pictures chosen to be shown in the cinema theatre connected with the Xew Zealand Court at the British Empire Exhibition. It
will introduce, the wonderful scenic attractions of the Dominion to the thousands of onlookers and demonstrate the possibilities of Xew Zealand for the making cf motion pictures. On Friday evening Mcf.oan’s Pictures present Florence Vidor in “COll- - the Woman” a story full of vim and incident. 'To cure his daughter of her "high faintin’ notions” ncc|ii.ired during a sojourn abroad, Tobias Stafford puts her on one of his merchant shies and strands her 011 r. lonely island—with her trainer. He is Larry Saunders, a rich cowboy and friend of Tnliey’s. Judith and Larry are fin ions at the trick. Larry's luck cf refinement annoys Judith excessively, while he thinks her a supercilious snob in need of a gonod spanking. During their months together on the island Judith’s haughtiness gives wav. Sho finds happiness in performing her menial tasks, and content in Her love for Larry, wishes they need never return to the world of sham. Then comes the French Count whom Judith had promised to wed. lie is not going to lose so rich a bride without a fight, so he steals her away on his yacht. Larry is powerless to pursue until Tobey arrives. They give chase and rescue Judith in a thrilling manner. A Gazette and Comedy complete a tine programme.
