MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT
LAKE KA.NIERI ROAD. ()n Saturday evening a serious motor car incident occurred in the vicinity ul Kanieri Forks on the Lake Katlieri road. .Mr .lames Park. Crown Solicitor, accompanied by Mrs Park atid his sister-in-law. Miss Mary Wilson. were returning Ir.im the hike side where the day had been spent. Air Park had occasion to stop at the forks where JI parcel w;|s left. On returning to the car, he proceeded to crank up the machine, hut no sooner wjis the engine brought into motion than the car h iundcd forward, striking Mr Park somewhat violently to the ground, and the car pas-sd over him. It is surmised iliai the machinery had been, lfttpartially in gear, thus accounting for the celerity with wltih the ear moved forward. The car took an erratic course, there being no one near enough to the wheel to guide li. and plunged over the side of the r ind, capsizing. Miss Wilson fortunately was thrown clear, hut Mrs Park was pinned down under the overturned ear. Doing unable to render anv help. .Miss Wilson :it once returned to the Electric Power House nearby, and soon had the required assistance to remove the car and relieve .Mrs Park. It was found that, both Mr and Mrs Park were hurt, and no time wjis lost in summoning medical assistance, as also the amliuhmcc van. When the necessary transport arrived the injured persons were taken :tt- once to the Westland llcspitul where they received every attention. It was found Mrs Park had ;t broken collar lone, and also some injured ribs. Air Park in addition to being bruised about the hotly, had Jilso some scalp wounds from which ji slight concussion resulted. The patients were made :ts comfort able its possible. and their progress towards recovery is as satisfactory ;ts can he expected.
The motor car was recovered the next day. It was djtmageil to some little extent. The escape of the occupants of the car from more serious ellccl-. however. u;i~ timst fortunate. There were many enquiries at the hosnital yesterday as to the Mate of the patients, and the latest reports indicate that they are making as satisfactory progress as enII I.e expected.

Pinned beneath ;t c.itiMzed motor car for ever an hour wjis the fate of Mr E. W. Spencer. Manager of the f'onsolidjitetl Goldfields, when travelling from Tkatnatua to Stillwater on Saturday morning. His injuries were of a serious nature, being ;t broken rib and an injured shoulder. The dlivrr of the car. which is on the mail service lietween Ik.amutua and Wjtiitta. received a broken nose and severe bruises to tlm hotly. The accident occurred on the north side of the Piig Grey llridgc. Mr Spencer was on his way from his home at Reeftoti to Christchurch. Leaving the t.rain at Ikitmaiua to attend to some business lie was detained too long and the train had departed when he arrived hack :tt the station. Taking the only available car lie endeavoured to reach Stillwater in time to connect with the express. Near the Rig Grey Bridge the ear skidded and capsized. Both the driver and Mr Spencer were pinned beneath the car until assistance arrived an hour later. Latest, reports state both victims are progressing favonrablv.
