A deputation representing the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, tbo County Council and the settlers on the left bank of the river, waited on the Minister of Public Works to-day to urge that the road oil the left hank of the river he constructed as far as Pipiriki. Mr W. Glenn. M.P.. said the settlers saw the water in tlu- river getting less and less, and they therefore regarded the road as la-ing perhaps the most important method of transport. Rridges were also wanted over the PitaMgi and other streams. The Minister said the matters would lie considered when the Public Works Estimates were being framed. fatal motor accident. PALMERSTON N.. August 8. .Stanton Hill, near Poliangina, was the scene of a motor fatality this niternoon. when a ear skidded, dropping over a bank I'.O feet. Mr 11. Lucas, wife of a farmer at Poliangina. was instantly killed. She leaves ;( grownup son and daughter. Mrs Wells, tindriver of the vehicle, and the only other ocelli ant, was removed to the hospital with severe injuries to the head and chest. GIRL WOENDED. WELLINGTON. Aug. 8. Her screams attracted a man near the scene, lie found a young man. named (Tillord (Idling, attempting to gash his own leg.
