At the Supreme Court, Walter Buttorbec. a married man, was charged with attempted carnal knowledge and indecent assault on I'emalcCi (three charges), and indecent assault on males (two charges). All the eases concerned industrial school children employed liv the accused, the eldest being a gill of 11 years of age. The jury returned a verdict of guilty on all (ounts, and the accused was remanded lor sentence. DUNEDIN. Augu.-t G. In the Supreme Court. John M’Cosker was charged with, on May 3, committing tut unnatural offence at Pembroke. There were also two charges of indecent assault, and three of wuniiiiiii as-aull. The jury failed to agree and a re-trial was ordered for tomorrow. James -Dee was charged with committing arson in Dunedin, on July 12. The case was unfinished, when the Court, rose. AUCKLAND.. August 0. At the Supreme Court. Mr Justice Ilerdnian sentenced prisoners who had pleaded guilty in the lower court. John Johnston, for breaking and entering at Papina, got twelve months' imprisonment. John Sanderson .McGregor, on six charges of theft and three charges of breaking and entering received three years reformative treatment. Thomas Jeremiah Smith, for bigamy, got eighteen months imprisonment. Arthur Pauiora. for carnal knowledge, was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment. James Benson, for indecent assault on a. male, at Taumarunili. received six years’ imprisonment. SUPREME COURT SENTENCES. AUCKLAND. Aug. 7. Justice llenlman admitted Douglas Roy Belling, fur theft of a postal packet. at Taumaranui to probation for 2 years. > John l’erry. for indecent assault till a girl at Thames was. in view of his mental condition let oil" with two years' reformative detention, under the supervision of a doctor. Henry Richard Hawke-, a tram enu--11 net or. for theft of a purse left in a tramear. was admitted to probation lottwo wars. PALMERSTON N.. Aug. 7. At the Supreme Court the following prisoners were .sentenced : Herbert Harold I’ayne. breaking, entering and theft at Dannevirkc. to two years' gaol. Adolph 1 hie. for perjury. to one month's hard labour, the Judge stating I lie prisoner's erime was a eomparativelv minor one ol the chi—■. Thomas Hamilton, who had pleaded guilty to eight charges of breaking, entering and theft was sentenced to three vears on each charge, to he concurrent, ilia! was declared a habit mil criminal. The Supremo Court has lecned. Mr .lust-ice Adams | residing. 'I here is only one criminal ease, that of Frederick Bowles on six charges of unnatural olfenees against boys. The Grand Jury returned true bills and till* ease is now being heard.
