uniforms called stt the I'oiitainalba " monastery in Itmiiminin and asked the Abbot to show them round. The monks invited the visitors to a meal in the refectory. In the middle of the meal the officers suddenly produced revolvers and forced the Abbot to baud over a collection of valuable church plate and priceless jewellery. The robbers locked the monks in the cells ami vanished with the treasures.

The Warsaw correspondent of the “Times” says a battle was fought between Russian bandits and Polish cavalry at Stoblee on the Russo-Polish border. Hundreds of bandits, some wearing Soviet helmets, armed with lilies, machine- guns and bombs attacked the Government olliees, police stations, and public treasury, all of which were looted. Telegraphs and telephones were destroyed, and the prisons raided and prisoners released. The bandits posted sentries around the town. . The battle resulted in seven cavntrx being killed. The bandits, apparently suffered no loss, though they escaped to Russia, and are believed to be cut The Polish Cabinet are helpless in the matter as everybody knows the Soviet encourages raids, but it i' 'impossible to find proof. The raids are increasingly frequent and happen dndy.
