VCSTH.. MAN AND N.Z- CABLE ASSOCIATION. THE DUBLIN CONFERENCE. LONDON, August d. Air J. 11. Thomas (Colonial Secretary. and Air Arthur Henderson (Home Secretary) arrived in Dublin this morning. 'President Cosgnavc ,and hie Cabinet joined them at the Vice-Regal 1/jdge and remained in consultation for me rest of the day. It is understood that Mr Cosgrave is strongly opposed to delaying the amending treaty until Ootoficr and indicated' that he could lint lie responsible for developments in tlie Free State if the necessary legislation was not pushed through. The "Daily Telegraph’s" Dublin correspondent says that persons in close touch with President Cosgrave’s Alinistors declare that Air Cosgrave put an alternative proposal Indore Air Thomas and Mr Henderson, of pushing the Bill through or facing such changes in Southern Ireland as would force Air Cosgravo’s Ministry to resign. Alt’ Cosgrave’s position i.s complicated by tlie attitude of many of hi.s supporters in the Dail who leave tlie support of an influential body in the Free State ArmA •
THE REAL DANGER, LONDON, Aug. C>. The Dublin correspondent of the London "Daily Telegraph” further says:—“Air Cosgrave’s supporters charged the British .Ministry with a breach of faith. This was a factor in the recent Irish Army revolt and tlie position is now acute, as the Irish Army is Republican at heart. There has been a strong movement in recent weeks to force the hand ol the I'reo State Minister. Tho Trades Unions, the local government bodies, and other organisations have taken up the cry of •British treachery.' " The resignation of. the 1' reo State Ministry may readily be followed by a fusion uf Free Staters and the Republicans Run one party, bent upon a vital reconstruction, and an extension „f the Treaty. Therein lies the real danger of the moment. MR THOMAS’S STATEMENT. LONDON, Aug. fh The Daily Telegraph reports iliat ML .1. 11. President Cooliilgo will call tin International Conference to discuss the limitation of land and sea armaments. It is said that it is expected that the President will extend the call after the Reparations settlement, and before the U.S.A. elections. Tlie result of such a move would greatly strengthen the President with voters, who are strongly for peace.
