A WELCOME SOCIAL.
TO 81-:Y. PERKINS.
There was a large attendance of members of All Saints’ Church congregation and visitors at All Saints’
-i lioolronm last evening for the purpose of extending a welcome to their new t i.-ar. the Bev. Perkins, formerly of Balclutha.
lion. Michel M.1..C., presided, and in opening protect lings, extended a very hearty welcome to Bev. Perkins, Alls Perkins ami family to our district, and hoped that he would have a happy ..me while vicar in tnis parish. He also spoke at length on the past history of the church and of the goodfortune of the church in always securing good men in the Ministry. I It l men asked .Mr Keller. Church Warden to snv a few winds.
Mr Keller in a lining speech welcomed the .Minister to this parish, and lelt .-me that in doing so he had tin- hearty support of everyone present mere. w It.mi. he fell sure would give
him the heartiest- <"-operation in his work in connection with the Church. Bev" I*. l’>. l-'iascr. M.A.. nl-n joined in the words of welcome to the Bev. Perkin-, hi- wife, and family. Hi-
spoke at s. me length on the status ol the Church, and also on the co-ojxM-a-tiou received from the people, deplor-
ing the lack of interest by the male sex in all Church work. He concluded with extending good wishes to Bev. Perkins during his stay in this parish.
Itev. .1. F. .lack, stated that he also joined in extending a hearty welcome to Bev. Perkins, and although he felt a sad loss in the removal of Mr Purchits. lie felt that ho place would lie tililv filled by Bev. Perkins, lie stated tn,-it as a previous speaker had mentioned the parish was not an easy one to work, but he would find the hospitality and co-operation of the people tended to make his duty much easier. Bev. Young. Harihari.. in a very happy speech welcomed his workmate to the Coast. .Mr Young eulogised trie Coast, and its people, and assured .Mr Perkins that lie would find his
congregation ever ready to co-operate and a.ssi.-t in all Church work, and thus make his work inmh lighter in thsi parish.
A number of musical items were then rendered which were heartily applauded by those present, at the conclusion of which Mr Perkins replied to the mail v exp.i cssioii.s of welcome extended to him that evening. He hoped that tlu- people would assist him i-> carry out the many duties entrusted to him. He concluded by thanking tnem for the welcome they had extended to him, and stated that in t.lio near future he would make their acquaintance more fully. Supper was then served by 7bo 4.adi<V Committee and 'the singing of the National Anthem, brought a most successful function to a close.
