A CLEVER RUSE.
By a clever ruse, a suspect who was being questioned at the (LIM).. Sydney, caught the detective oil' hi* guard, ami. punching him viciously 011 the jaw made his escape. For some time (last there has been a number of handbag robberies at the (L1L0.,, women in the telephone bureaus being the victims. Detective li. Jones was detailed to inquire into the matter. He was standing watching the telephones at the Hitt street entrance of the (LILO. "lien, it was stated, ho saw a man acting in a suspicious manner. The oflieer approached the man and began questioning him. He told the detective his name, and also the name of his employer. "\\ hy, there is my boss standing behind you.” he added. Detective Jones turned hi- head, and the moment he had done so he received a terrific blow on the jaw. which sent him reeling hack. Momentarily he was dnxen. and before he could recover the suspect had quickly turned and ran away. One of the detective's teeth was knocked out. while his mouth was cut. He hail to receive medical attention alter going hack to the Detective Onii-e.
