CONSTABLE’S EXCITING CHASE. WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. The polite have lately been searching for a man who is alleged to be concerned in altering a one pound note to .a twenty pound one. A constable came across it man in the Clyde Quay hotel bar whose appearance agreed with that of the wanted man. lie was having a drink at the moment and when the constable quietly told hint that his presence at the police station was desired. the man seemed willing enough to go along, hut asked to be allowed to finish bis drink. Instead of doing this he dashed out of the door and closely followed by the policeman went in and out of several nearby streets at a rapid pace. A crowd gathered to watch the race and the fugitive dashed through them, thus gaining on his pursuer. Later, however, the constable jumped on a motor lorry and made up
