urgency. Sir F. Hell said it was desired to effect two amendments. The first was to prevent the possibility of the jurisdiction of the landlord in determining the capital value of a dwelling being ousted hv mutual agroo■niont between the landlord and the tenant. It was also proposed to add a new clause to amend the Housing Aineiidment Act Ull’O-'J'J so as to provoiu an owner from obtaining possession on the misrepresentation that he desired it for his own occupation. The clause remedied makes it unlawful lor a landlord, who has obtained an order for possession, to occupy, sell of make any other such contract in regard to tt lions.' within six months of an agreement unless, by order of tile Magistrate. The Mill was put through till stages and passed. The Acts Interpretation Mill was amended itt one minor respect and passed.

Several members of the Council were appointed to a joint committee ol both Houses to consider and report upon the petition lodged last year by the Woolston Tanneries Company l.td.. asking for compensation for financial loss alleged to have been due to the action of tin- Covernmeiit control of the cx- ' port of hides.
