Louis Firpo. the heavy-weight boxer, and a woman named Blanca Lourdes, listed as Firpo’s stenographer, were held hy the immigration authorities on their arrival from the Argentine, because their passports were insufficiently vised. Firpo’s secretary. Edward Carbone and Miguel Farrar, his sparring partner, were also detained. All were sent to Ellis Island. Firpo later was admitted to the United States n.s a visitor. DEMPSEY’S CLOSE CALL. LOS ANGELES, July 21. .Tack Dempsey’s right arm, which contributed so heavily to winning him the heavy-weight crown, is out of commission as tlio result of ail automobile accident which occurred while ho was on route to the cinema Lot. The champion said that he escaped death miraculously. His automobile was thrown into ii ditch when another car struck it.
