MINERS’ DKAIAXD. WELLINGTON, July 22
The .Miners’ Federation have written to the Colliery Owners’ Associations in all the States, asking for a conference to dismiss the miners’ claims for a minimum wage of Co 10s a week for all shiftmen, whether cmployed on. tlio surface or underground and working days of seven hours from hank to hank.
PUBLIC SERVANTS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, July 22 The annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Public Service Association, opened ill Wellington today, under the presidency of Al.r R. Sinel. The opening was formal, Sir F. Hell, who was to attend, being at Sir W. Buchanan’s funeral. Twenty-two delegates were present. The annual report showed a membership of 3321, including 23 in Western Samoa. The year had been very satisfactory financially. War bonds to the value of (MOO hail been sold, anil the proceeds ro-invested. The reserve fund was €2,702 12s lOd. Ordinary cash receipts exceeded payments hy .€2lO Sd. Subscript-ions outstanding tototalled €331 3s 3d. The report outlined some benefits obtained during the year. These were not anything relating to the principal activities of the Association, namely, claims in connection with re-grading duo April Ist last, and also the improved salary conditions. The former were still under consideration by the Public Service Commissioner, and it seemed that it, i* embarrassed by reason ol the position created through the action of other organisations. The Association would like to see a common basis ol claim lirought before Parliament this session by tin* three organisations that have most in common—the P. and T. Officers’ Association, the Railway Officers’ Institute, and the Public Service Association. In moving the adoption ol tlio ve-pm-l. All- Sinel said that the year had been strenuous. Air Sinel was re-elected President, and Alessrs AlaeKintosh and J. Jackson (both of Wellington) ..vice-presi-dents. The conference is now in committee.
