ALLIED CONFERENCE.

M. 11ERRIOT WORRIED.

["The Times” Service.]

(Received this day at 11.23 a.m.) LONDON, July 22.

.Mr -MacDonald, yesterday and today, had lengthy conferences with t he chief allied delegates to the London Conference. Subsequently Cabinet held its weekly meeting, which was advanced by a day in view of the probability of the plenary session of the Conference being held to-morrow. It is noticeable to-day that M. Uerriot is looking pale and tired, apparently suffering from the strain of the comments in the French newspapers, which are based on the long despatches from their correspondents, and which make it clear that the serious difficulties were chiefly due to the attitude of tho hankers towards the proposed loan to Germany. Even .M. llorriot s organ the "Ere Nouvellc,” joins in tho chorus, the newspapers declaring the hankers are influenced by politicians hostile to the Reparations Commission, and nimhig tit preventing I'ranee from retaining her freedom ol action in the event of Germany defaulting. The “Matin" describes the difficulty its serious and almost tragic, saying that if M. Harriot refuses the bankers tho guaranties they require, the Dawes plan will full to the ground and if lie agrees it will ultimately mean the revision of tlie Treaty ol Versailles.
