WEST COAST BOWLING ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING OF CENTRE. Tho annual meeting of the West Coast Bowling Association Centre was held at Grcymouth last evening at 8 o’clock. Present—Messrs J. King (Chairman), F. Blaxall (Greyinouth), T. Bowers (Runanga), A. E. Benjamin (Hokitika), Blackwood (Reefton) D. McKay (Secretary), and W. E. Reynolds (Treasurer). The minutes of the last annual meeting were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN WAR D C< }R R ESPONDENCE. From the New Zealand Association, several letters dealing with business of meetings especially in connection with the vexed question of howl testing. there being several reports as to the testing of the standard howls of the various centres. —Received. From .Same forwarding ballot papers for voting for the -South Island meinliers of the Council.--Received and tho vote exercised. From Westport Club forwarding several remits for consideration, in connection with annual tournament, which were received and dealt with as follows: -
(1) That no time limit he imposed, tlie set number of heads being played out. and that an endeavour be made to counteract tlie number of deadheads. It was decided after considerable discussion that in connection with the time limit, that it was not advisable to alter the present rule, as it would unduly prolong the tournaments in tho pairs play, ‘hut that it he left to the Match Committee to deal with, as was thought best when the nominations are received and the scheme of play was being drawn out. That in regard to dead heads no action Ire taken.
(2) That a substantial trophy for rinks and pairs competitions he provided instead of photos of the winning team as at present.—Tt was resolved that orders he given the winning teams of a value of £(> for the rinks and £3 for the pairs, together with the usual certificates for each player and the Club.
The Chairman reported that the supply of tournament certificates, which had been getting short, had been destroyed in the fire on his promises last year.—Resolved that a new supply he procured, the Chairman and .Secretary to arrange. (3) That the services of the Secretary of the Tournament Committee lie financially recognised.—This proposal was generally opposed, and was
(I) That a copy of the annual balance sheet lie supplied to all clubs.— The Secretary reported that this had been agreed to at a previous meeting and had been already given effect to this year. NEW COMPETITION. Mr Ring submitted on behalf of the Grey Club a proposal to hold an annual champion of champions singles and pairs competition. A long discussion followed and ultimately it was decided to inaugurate a champion of champion singles competition for 1925. to he held at Westport on a Saturday in March next, the definite date to be agreed on at Hokitika during the annual tournament when the players are together. That a .suitable trophy be procured by the Centre to he held for a year by the winner whose name shall also he engraved thereon. The several Clubs to nominate their representative lor the competition. BALANCE .SHEET. The annual balance sheet presented by the Treasurer showed the year started with a credit balance of £7l Is -Id, the total receipts being shown as £10(5 Is 3d. The profit on the
tournament at GreyinotiCh amounted to £2O 1 -Is. The payments totalled £35 2s 8d leaving n credit balance oi £7O 18s 7d.--Received and adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers lesiilted:--Chairman. Mr J. Ring; Secretary, Mr 1). McKay; Treasurer, Mr W. E. Reynolds; Auditor, Mr F. 11. Kilgoiir; Committee—Messrs A. K. Benjamin (Hokitika), F. Blaxall (Westport), A'. Mori (Reefton). T. Dowels (Runanga). The annual levy for the Centre was fixed at nine-pence per member. THE TOURNAMENT. The oiler of Hokitika Club to accept the next tournament on their green was accepted and it was resolved that play commence on Monday. February 9 th. The Tournament Committee was appointed to consist of one delegate from each Chili, with the addition of three other members to he nominated by the Hokitika Club. The usual allowance towards entertainment expenses was agreed to.
It was resolved to recommend the Tournament Committee, when drawing out the scheme of play to with-hold the thaw for winners of sections until after the first rounds had been played, so that two teams from one Club shall not play against each other if it can he avoided. It was further resolved that if found necessary owing to there being more than lti entries for the rinks and 32 for the pairs, that the Tournament Committee have (lower to extend the tournament by. one day. making it four instead of three days. The Chairman extended good wishes lor a successful season and thanked members for the .support given during the past year. The meeting terminated at 11 p.tn.
