MINING ACCIDENT AT BACK CREEK.

Particulars of the accident to Mr Arthur Clifton in his sluicing claim at Back Creek yesterday afternoon •.how that while engaged in sluicing operations portion of the lace came ; 1 w;IV .sweeping Mr ( liltoii into the sluice boxes, and he was carried the whole length of the tail race, a distance nl some ,00 yards to tin* cud. being emptied out on the dump of tailings there. When willing help leached him he was found to have teceived considerable injury. Medical attendance was at once sent for. and on arrival (lie injured man "as orderei I to he taken to the hospital. It was found necessary to carry hint on a stretcher fur 21 miles over the rough tailings till the ambulance could he reached. On oni|tiiry we were informed that tlie sufferer had received a large contused wound on tin* head anil was suffering from concussion, anil was also badliy bruised all over as a result of his involuntary journey down the rough tailrace. and he is suffering considerably from shock. Last night he showed ilousideahle recovery, onil though his condiiou was extremely serious as a result of his rough experience. he was progressing as tavorablv as could lie exported.
An enquiry at the Hospital this morning elicited that Mr Clifton was much the same, and lie had a very coinlortable night.
