The Speaker read am address from the Governor-General congratulating him upon his re-election as Speaker and also expressing thanks for the Addross-in-Reply.
Leave of absence for one week was granted Sir James Carroll on account of illness.
The Bills of Exchange* Amendment hill was read a first time. The second reading of the Juries Amendment' Bill was moved hy the Hon .1. .McGregor for the sixth time alter a debate in which wide differences of opinion were expressed as to the possibility id reducing the majority of the jury to live-sixths, the bill was read a second time.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. In the House tin* following hills were introduced and read a first time: The Sale of Foods and Drugs Amendment (Sir Maui I’omarc), the Worker’s Compensation for Accident Bill (.Mr Howard); Licensing Poll Bill (Mr Tsitt), Dominion State Bank (M.r Veitch) Painters and Decorators Health Protection Bill (Mr Veitch). The remainder of the sitting was taken up with u discussion on .Ministers’ answers to questions which was continued at tho evening session. The second reading of .Mr Willord’s Justice of the Peace Amendment Bill was agreed to on the voices and tho house rose at {1.30 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. next dav.
