The tinancial position was satisfactory. The president. Air Jewell of Foxtail, referred to the deputation to the Prime .Minister, and said lie hoped they would get relief from taxation. Many clubs were showing a loss, and relief w s urgently reunit'd!. The valuable assistance of Mr Albert Urttee (Thames) was referred to. and it was decided to send him a letter, regretting his absence through illness. Mr Lyon expressed tin* opinion that the tax on totalisator receipts should be graduated, not a Hat rote. A giaduated tax "as the only way to relieve country cluhs.
It was decided to make a representation to this effect to the Prime Minister. Mr lli-ure (Thames) suggested a reduction to 11 per cent. Mr Lyon: There is not llm-klev's chance. If country clubs could not carry on they would go out, and they; would he killing the goose that laid the I golden egg. He had heard that exemption was likely under a certain sum. but it sounded too good to be true.
It was decided to write to affiliated clulis on tlit* matter of reducing expenses in regard tu stipendiaries and racecourse detectives, and recommended them to cease contributions to the Sports’ Protection l.c-aguc. One member expressed the opinion that if they could not look after their own interests without paying another association £6OO it was a poor look-out.
