It is apparent that the marauder was in the billiard saloon tit the rear of the premises last evening, and took the opportunity to remove a portion of the slats of glass from the louvre. Presumably, lie returned after tlie place was closed for the night, made an entrance to the billiard room by means of the louvre. Once in the billiard room a short-handled spade, used as a fire shovel, was forced into service to force open .lie doer leading to the hairdressing saloon and tobacco shop. Acting-Professor Thomas .said the Professorial Board had carried the following resolution: “That the hoard is of opinion that on account of the continually increasing difficuily of carrying on university work under the federated system the time has arrived when the question of creating individual universities in Auckland, Wellington. Christchurch and Dunedin should be seriously considered.” The board also proposed that a commission be appointed, in the event of any slops being taken, to make a recommendation as to tlie constitution and powers and distribution ot the funds now administered by the University of New Zealand.

The council resolved that the colleges should receive autonomous powers in the matter of studies and granting of degrees and requesting the Government to appoint a commission.
