WIVES AT 21-EMH.
LONDON. May 21. Major W. T. Blake, tlie airman and explorer, who returned a few days ago from a thousand miles journey across the Sahara among the Seinissi in search cf Mahommed's treasure, tellof some curious customs at Sava, the site of a long-lost civilisation, the home of the mysterious and lanatieal Senussi. When a woman pay-, a call upon a friend she wears all the clothes she possesses, one garment on top of another. As the visit progresses she begins to discard her clothes, and lays them one fiv one in a heap beside her in order to demonstrate to all who see how wealthy is her husband. Women are, however, ol small account. A wife costs about 2 Is. whatever her station in life, and the men change their partners with almost startling rapidity. Girls marry at about Id or 1! years of age and hoys at about It, hut divorce is so prevalent that ii is no uncommon thing to meet a child of I I or In who has been married and divorced several times. In his lifetime the average man marries about 2<l times, though some aspire to as many as or -fit wives.
