A lad named Trevor Sotheran, son of Mr and Mrs T. Sothcran, Cobden, sustained a broken leg yesterday at the Cobden School.
The death occurred at Reefton on Saturday morning, of Mrs Annie Flannigan, widow of the late Mr Frank Flaiinigan, a former mine manager ot Progress Mine. She had been in lading health for some time past. The late Mrs Flaiinigan is survived by one son, Mr Tom Flaiinigan, of Big River. The deceased was a native of County Cork, Ireland, and 58 years of age.

The harmony of the meeting ct the Hokitika School Committee last evening in the cookeiy room of the 'lethnical School was temporarily interrupted liv a crash and a lot of squealing in an adjoining room. An investigation by a number of members went to show that a venturesome rodent had come into too close contact with a spring rat trap, with fatal results to it.

’i lie death took place al Christchurch of Richard Straight, one of the earliest residents of Kumara, where he was well and favourably known. He followed mining pursuits, but for the past 1 I years laid been in very poor health, lie left Kumara, with his wife, a few years ago, and resided for a while at Waiuta, later going to his daughter in Christchurch, lie leaves a widow and grown up family of six sons, Richard, Charle“, Alex. Samuel, Thomas, and \\ ill in 111, and eight daughters, Mosdames K. Steel (Goldsborough), T. Richardson (Karamea), V. Pearce (Broken Hill), J. Blight (Maminui), C. Cruse (Papanuii, and Misses Myrtle (Ktimarn), ami Jennie (Karamea).
