AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. MR BRUCE’S COMMENT. LONDON, July 4. Commenting on -Mr Bruce's recent statement that the Imperial Parliament's unsatisfactory reception of preference resolutions were not much encouragement to deal with the recommendations of the Economic Conference, the “Weekly Nation” says it wishes Mr Bruce would rid himself of the habit of attempting to put indirect pressure on Britain in regard to Singapore Base and preference. Australia has every right to refuse the ratification of any proposal ol which she disapproves on its merits, hut veiled threats to turn down one recommendation merely by way of retaliation for the rejection ol another does not conduce to the relations we desire to see within the Empire, noi will it p’romotc the acceptance of Air Bruce’s views. It is a fear ol this sort of thing which is becoming common, that forms one ol the main objections to Imperial preference itself.
