Mr li. Aid I lone, a former resident of Kiimara, died at the Palmerston North Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, after an illness of about six weeks’ duration. Some years ago he was a member of the Police Koree. living stationed at Aliaura. and other centres. Deceased who was a son of Airs Aid Hone of Kttniiira. leaves a widow (formerly .Mis* (iallihardi of Moss), and a family of eleven.

The marriage of Mr Lewis (assets Koruahan, (-In istclmich, to Aliss Lilia l lilnia Skoglund. daughter of Airs .J. T. Skoglund. of Greymouth. was .solemnised by the Mev. T. N. Cuttle. A reception was held later at the residence of the bride’s mother, and the happy couple left during the afternoon fot Wellington, where the honeymoon will he silent. Although Hr. Jellett's engagement with the Department will Ikj putt time only, his advice will lie available to the Health Service at all times. Dr. .Tolled was for seven years master of the famous Ilotiimln Hospital in Dublin. He is also late Kind’s Professor of Midwifery of Dublin University. His text-books on midwifery ate regarded as standard works. It is considered that the Department of Health lias been singularly fortunate in securing tin- services of so eminent an authority. Di. Jellett arrived in Xew Zealand, about 1910. and during the last five years has been practising in Christchurch.
The Soldiers’ Bazaar was brought to a close at the Soldiers’ Hall last night. The attendance again .vnx rather tneagre. The lady stall holders however, pushed their wares, and inose present were in a liberal mood, md expressed Itheir appreciation of Die soldiers’ work generously. The takings over the three* days have been a little over £IOO. There is a quantify of goods on hand, and these the Indies decided to dispose oi later by special efforts. During last evening. Mrs H. Mel.cun rendered a number .1 pianoforte selections, the llova! (livhcsira not lining able to attend, hate in the evening the stalls wore dismantled, and the hall cleared in preparation for'the wind-up dame which is to take place at 0 o’clock this evening. An imperfect joint in the tramway leading to the hush at Arntika resulted yesterday morning in the derailment of the locomotive anil the scalding by steam of Charles Bryan. With the driver, another man and Bryan aboard, the locomotive was heading for the hush. and. when the flaw in the rails was struck the engine left the line and capsized. The driver was thrown clear and escaped injury, the second man also being thrown clear hut was struck hv a falling hag of coal, although he escaped with only a few bruises. Bryan was the most unlucky of the trio, and the steam scalded him so severely that it was deemed advisable to bring him to Greymouth for medical attention. He is ill no danger, however, anil is now progressing satisfactorily.
Saturday, dune 23th., was the tenth anniversary of the event that acted as a spark to the international gunpowder in Europe —The assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, and his wife. They were visiting Sarajevo, in Serbia.' on June 28th., 1914, and weio twice attacked while driving in the streets. A bomb which was thrown at the Imperial carriage missed it. but injured a number of bystanders. Subsequently a Serbian student named I’rincep lired two revolver shots, Fatally wounding both the Archduke and Ardlulm.'hess. The notorious ultimatum from Austria to Serbia. which preceded the Great War, followed within the succeeding month. Sattndav was also the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Peace Treaty between the Allies and Germany.
