Thii. third quarterly meeting of the 2nd. Hokitika. Troop Committee takes place at 8 o’clock this (Thursday) evening at the County Office, and it is hoped to see a good muster of the parents of tin' Imys and others in the town interested in scouting. The Chairman lias tile annua! report of the Dominion Execuive of the Seoul .Movement to lay before the meeting, and it is also hoped to strengthen the executive committee of the troop, noiuiuation.s tor which will he received at "lie meeting. it will he specially gratifying to all concerned if some of those who arc mu directly connected with the troop through their -mis will in this instance put in an appearance, and hear something of what is being and lias keen done hv the Scouts and t'uhs.
A lew of the 2nd. Troop were under canvas at .South Spit during tie''weekend. favoured with excellent weather, and a very enjoyable time in the open was spent. Some interesting tracking practice among the sand hills proved specially interesting-. Both troops and packs have been busy lately working at tests for the various grades. The majority of tile Scouts are well on their way to 2nd. ilass rank, and the Cub work has centred round the Ist. star tests. With the addition of Sixer dolln Walker, who completed ilia tests this week, the 2nd. I'livk llavi' now four ’‘tif-.t star cubs’’ and s.'vi'r.d others likely to finality some. Lest, any such plead lack of leisure L is wiii-thy to note that exemption irom cadet- training is granted, if de.sired. to assistant scoutmasters who show themselves proficient, thus affording the highest recognition of the fact that the work in question is of permanent value to the nation.
