The regulations under the Sale of Foods and Drills Aet. 1008. occupy 12 pages in the •‘Gazette’’ just imblislied. A number of existing iemulations will be revoked, and the new ones 'coine into operation on August Ist. Statements of weights or volume will, in future, where stated on packages, be expressed in pounds, ounces, ete., or in pints, quarts, fluid Ounces, ;*te. For instance. butter wrappers, wliieli now bear an imprint that the . “pat-knee contains not less than 15j ounces,” hr honey, or other containers -hearing .similar notifications, will not comply, with the regulations. Important provisions are made on the subject of labelling, to ensure the goods so labelled are properly described
Certain health precautions are in,JL eluded in the ease of persons handling food or drugs, or the preparation or storage of same. Minced meat, sausage moat, imported. preserved, and cool stored eggs, egg pulp, dried eggs, etc., are all passed under review. Milk, cream, skim-milk, condensed milk, nro also subjected to revised regulations in rogpvd to quality, labelling. etc., ns are coffee, spices, and innumerable domestic articles. Mineral waters, syrups, cordials, and vines are dealt with, and particularly affect places of refreshment, soda fountains; marble bars ete. The last of the regulations covers disinfectants, germicides, antiseptics, and deodorants, together with penalties for breaches of the regulations.
