SPLIT BANK NOTES CHARGE
WELLINGTON. July 1. Edward Jack Cromo. alias Krouter, alias Anderson, anpeared at the Magistrate's Court charged with splitting :• I'nion Bank pound note and a Bank of New Zealand ten shilling note. Counsel for accused said the occurrence arose as the result of a bet in a hotel bar and the splitting was done there to show that splitting could he d eie There was no intention to pass the notes. The accused had l>ocii in business in Wellington for some time and bad been an officer in the Navy during lie war. The indite, however, said the accused was not unknown to them, and in asking for a remand till Wednesday requested that heavy hail he fixed as the offence was a serious one A remand was granted, hail ltcing allowed at £4OO.
