Percy Hcgiunld Sutherland, aged w;ln to-day committed for sentence for forging a Post and Telegraph vouchor for L’-Jd IPs Id. It was >la tod that the accused had a record tor work above iho average employee. Lately he had jiivon wav to gambling and dissipation. He made out a voucher for freight alleged to have come overseas and been forwarded to Wairoa. The voucher was taken to the room of the Stores Manager, and accused waited while a storeman signed it. Apparently the voucher was not checked, for it was taken to the Accountants Branch, and accused arranged for authority for a payment stamp to he attached. lie presented it for payment at the Money Order Office, where the voucher was cashed. Accused said lie had no accomplices, but worked tbc scheme out himself.

Approached by a representative of the ‘‘Southland Times” last evening. Sir Joseph AVard, who is at present on a visit to Invercargill, impressed on the pressman that it was hi-, preference not to speak on the political situation to-day.

Plaintiff also alleges that her career hits boon ruined, and that she has suffered great agony of mind by reason of the shame attached to the assault, and sin- felt compelled to separate herself from her husband. Plaintiff was tinder cross-examina-tion when the court adjourned.
PECULIAR DEATH. TIMAR'U, June 2o Iv.lward Tames Wright, aged 50, employed in a local auction room, scratched one of his fingers it fortnight ago. Flood poisoning set in and the finger was removed, hut the patient developed acute mania and died. At the inquest a verdict that death was due to syncope, hastened hy exhaustion and acute mania was returned.
