Sprott, ntissionaty in charge of the Pugot district, Ysahel, Solomon Islands. Deceased had been ten years on the mission field. He was a nephew of the Bishop Sprott, of Wellington. He leaves a widow. SUDDEN DEATH AT SEA. WELLINGTON. June 2s. A wireless message received to-day |>v the Wellington office of the Commonwealth and Dominion line from the captain of the steamer Port Wellington states that J. Hunter, chief engineer of the vessel, died suddenly tit sea on Sunday. The Port Wellington left this port on June 14 for London. DREDGE AGROUND. WANGANUI. June 23. A mishap occurred to the Harbour Board dredge Kaione this morning, when she stuck on a sandbank outside flto entrance to the river. The dredge had taken a load of spoil out to discharge til sea, following her usual course when something fouled her propeller, tints rendering the vessel helpless, and she drifted on to a sandbank to the south of the south mole. This afternoon it was repotted that she was in no danger and that the anchors putout were holding her. No difficulty is anticipated in getting her afloat again. The Kaione has l*cen engaged dredging the turning basin at Castlecliff for twelve months and had been making good progress, despite the fact that she has had exceptionally hard ground to work. The Kaione cost the hoard £33,000. plus the expense of bringing her out, hut she lias done a lot of good work since her arrival.
