At the annual conference of the Railway Officers’ Institute, it was decided again to press for the setting up of a permanent tribunal for the purpose of settling disputes, etc., on the lines of the Hoard, which adjudicated after the 1920 strike. A Dunedin remit providing for claims and delivery of lectures where desired by members (country mendiers to be given every facility in order that they may attend) was agreed to. A "Wellington proposal that railway officers should receive similar treatment to that enjoyed hy officers of tiie other State departments, in connection with the staff reports of the controlling officers, received unanimous support. and it was decided to also agree to a remit from the Executive Committee that the Department bo rcf|nested to notify the staff of the qualifieations necessary for advancement from grade to grade, and to higher positions in district offices. It was resolved that, as railway work was so widely different from the classes of work controlled hy the other State departments, the Railway Department should not collie within the' scope of the Uniformity Committee.
