[Reuters Telegrams.] BILL BRENNAN'S END. XEAY YORK, June IG. It transpires that William Brennan the boxer, was slain in his Cabaret because ho had resented the remarks made to a woman by Joseph Pioli, ono of the two men who have been arrested for the killing. According to District Attorney Jones the woman, whose name has not been rovnled. had gone to the Brennan Cabaret with a party of which Pioli was a memlier. As she was leaving with i loli. lie made abusive remarks to her. Bill Brennan then interceded, and he ejected Pioli from the Cabaret. IX CHESAPEAKE BAY. XEAY YORK, June 17. A telegram from Norfolk (Virginia) says the battleship AVest Virginia, grounded on a mini bank in Chesapeake Bay to-day.

The United States is preparing to electrify its entire merchant marine, converting hundreds of Governmoiitowned trading vessels into' motor ships. There is a campaign to rejuvenate the service and to make it a strong factor in the world’s commerce. It is to ho accomplished in two ways. First, the Government are converting their own vessels; and, secondly, they are lending money to private owners on a fifty-fifty basis for the conversion purposes, or the purchase of converted Government vessels. The Convention ignored the proposal, declaring unanimously for strict enforcement.
