From District Engineer, N.Z.R.. G rev mouth, stating in reference to Park Street crossing semaphore, that it was not considered necessary to make any alteration and there was no danger to persons using the classing if oidiimry care was taken.- Received. On the last occasion the pipe line had opened at a collar on Coal Creek bridge and was loosing all the water. Since it has boon lepaired the supple lias boon satisfactory. Footpath- have been cleaned in Hampden and Weld streets and Gib-on Quay, preparatory to gravelling. Sale ,-treot pit lias been stripped and i- now ready for gravel for Hampden street footpaths. Two residences in Sale street, eastern side, have been

con netted with main concrete drain in Sale street.

Four approaches have been made to two new residences in Davie, Rolleston and Sale streets and three new connections with water service.

The Rorough horse and dray has been fully employed carting shingle for pipe making, street cleaning, repairing and work on Cass Square. During the month about (5 chains of 18-inch concrete pipes and 15 chains of 12-inch pipes have been made.

The usual maintenance work has also he attended to.—Received.

Mr Heinz reported in favour of diverting heavy lorn* traffic hy way of Rollcston street from Stafford street to the quay; and that a quantity of pipes be procured.—Received and adopted. The Library Committee reported on the progress of repairs to the roof of the Library that were nearly completed: iliat the steel ceilings would .shortly require renewal. A number of new books had been added and several new subscribers were received. —Received and adopted. It was resolved to offer the slates off tlio roof for sale, the building having boon roofed with iron. The Council rose at 8.30 p.m.
