LEFT PARTIES SELECT PA IN LEV E [R KUTK 1(3 Tk I.KIiRAMS.] (Received this day at 11.2 b a.m.) PARIS, June 12 A meeting of the Left Parties of both Chambers, held to select a candidate for to-morrow’s elect ion of President of the Republic, resulted in M. Painleve obtaining .'UK! votes and D’Ouinurqtle MO. The successful canETuate must obtain an absolute majority of the votes of the 872 deputies and senators who are expected to be present.
FRENCH PRESIDENCY. (Received this day at lid |>.m.) PARIS. June 12. -M. Pninlcve’s supporters liad reckoned he would obtain practically an unanimous endorsement, and the voting means a severe blow to his hopes, as M. Dumergue can count on the support of tile moderate elements of both Chambers, which were not represented at the meeting. Dumergue is therefore favourite in the race for the Presidency.
