CLERK GETS £7OOO TO GET OUT.

The question of the retirement of Nesbitt, the Town Clerk, which for a considerable time, has been a subject prominently before the City Council, was solved by Nesbitt agreeing to voluntarily resign from the end of the present month on a three months’ notice. Under the terms of settlement Nesbitt will, including the honorarium representing one year’s salary, receive altogether between six and seven thousand sterling. \V. G. Layton, deputy Town Clerk, succeeds him. OBITUARY. SYDNEY, June 3. The death is announced of Captain 11. F. Lilvelihul, who arrived at Auckland in ISSO, and qualified'as a master mariner there.
