During the interruption of the (dectrie ligli, and power at Christchurch this week, caused by the breakdown of .the Coleridge supply, mtir.li inconvenience was felt. In the darkness, the lights of the cars shone with dazzling brilliancy, helping the pedestrians to see their way. The benefit derived from motor lights bv those who walked was noticeable when they turned into the side streets, these being veritable avenues of darkness. The only bright snots wore the gas lamps in occasional houses. At live o'clock there were very few taxis available in the city; Shops which did not have the gas service to fall hack upon had to close lip. and iii one instance whore a bargain sale was in progress, tile crowded simp bad to be cleared of eager customers, for the lack el ligiit. The hotels suffered similarly where gas was not available ilioiigb meagre light was obtained from candles.
Says the Karanma correspondent of the Wes!port News:—All the cows in the district are taking on the go-slow policy and the supply of milk is gradually decreasing. The cream lorry has her last flip for the season to Wanganui on Sunday and for the rest of the season will only run as far as Koiigahu. All through the season, the Dairy Coy. has been fortunate in not having the lorry held up through Hoods. Only on one occasion has the lorry been unable to cross on the punt and on one occasion has she been held up till the south side of the river, hut it caused little or no inconvenience to the Company, as it. was near the end of the season. The year’s output Is I understand, far in excess of all previous seasons and Mr Williamson (formerly of Kokatahi Dairy Factory} and his assistants are to he highly congratulated on the manner in which they handled the large amount of cream.
