News was received in town yesterday morning that Mr Joseph James (Dick) Brocklelniist. eldest son ol Miami Mrs Joseph Briichlchui st, of Retell Street, Hokitika, had been found drowned in a creek near Xgahere on the main road to Reef ton. Ihe “Argus” reports that t !i-• was found in Red Jack’s creek early on Sunday morning by a youth named George Gibson, about 20 yards below the bridge at 8 o’clock in the morning. Dr Little and Constable Guerdon, of Blackball, were summoned immediately. On examining the body, Dr Litte found no sign of injuries, except an abrasion to the nose.

Bloodstains were found on the bridge where the deceased, by some means, must have fallen through. As there is no depth of water in the creek, it is surmised the deceased must have been knocked unconscious bcloro, or when actually falling into the stream. It is reported that deceased’s watch had stopped at -1.45 o clock. The deceased was a native of Hokitika and 34 years of age anil was a watchmaker by trade, bill also followed other occupations, and had recently been employed as cook in a survey camp located in the vicinity of Red Jack's, to which he may have been returning early yesterday, when la met with an accident in the darkness, lie was a genial personality, and well liked by all who knew him.
