BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRICHT. APPRENTICES ACT. WELLINGTON. May 21. The new Apprentices Act in its relation to Technical School education was touched upon by the Minister of Education at the Technical Colleges’ conference. Tie stressed the point that the operation of the new Act should not be allowed to treiidi too heavily upon the funds of the Education Department, in carrying out the extra work which would he involved. I odor the Act apprentices were required to take up a technical course in their respective trades. He had been very careful to have inserted in the Act- a provision that the Minister of Education must give his consent as to w hich technical schools such apprentices might be sent. The reason for this was apparent. The vote lor secondary education this year was large, but not more than enough, and he could not agree that any substantial portion of it should lie devoted for the provision of extra facilities in the way of more buildings or increased stalls to a large inllox of new pupils coming in. If any such big demand were mad'i upon them, it would have to be considered wlietber the employees should not be called upon to substantially assist in tile provision of extra technical education Incilitics.
