GROUP SETTLEMENT.
LONDON. -March 11. A definite stop towards land settlement in Canada tinder the Umpire Settlement Act was taken yesterday, when the committee sinned an agreement with Mr W. J. Triad;, representinn il'* Canadian National Railways, to help groups. each of ‘2O Rritish families, to settle on specially selected lands near the railways.
To each qualifying'settler the committee is authorising a loan of £.300, and each will be expected to have about £2OO on bis own account. Only married people with agricultural experience and of sound physique, ability and industry ""ill be included. The first groups will be settled near Tisdale, Saskatchewan, in well-watered nark-like country adapted to mixed farming. It is hoped to establish MO families this year.
