LIBERAL LEADER AT BLENHEIM. PRESS’ LACK OK INTEREST. BLENHEIM. .May 21. -Mr T. M. Wilford, Leader of the Liberal-Labour Party, addressed a meeting of between -If)'.) and o()0 people in Blenheim last night and had a cordial and attentive hearing. He complained of the lack of interest in the Party by the press of New Zealand and said the fact that they could not count on much support from the press necessitated the present platform campaign.

PROBATION FOR TWO YEARS. CHRISTCHURCH, .May 27 C. 11. A. Jones, a youth of 20, was admitted to probation for two years for making a false declaration of marriage with a girl of fifteen. Counsel for the defence stated that at the lime of the offence, Jones, a recent arrival from England, was awaiting trial no a charge of carnal knowledge, but the offence took place not to avoid conviction in this case, hut to save trie honour of the girl, who looked far l>evoml her age. Judge Adams said probation would he granted in view of Unexceptional circumstances, but it was not to be taken as a precedent.
