SAN FRANCISCO, May pi*' An operation calling for the injection of a quantity of its father’s blood into the heart of a baby, in a desperate effort to save its life, was successfully performed at the University of California Hospital by three .surgeons. It is thought to he the first operation of its kind. The names are kept secret for ethical reasons. At birth the baby started to bleed. The arteries collapsed. The hearty cavity was then reached with a hypodermic

According to a Cleveland message, the transmission of photographs has been accomplished by the engineers of the American Telephono- and Telegraph Company. The transmission took five minutes. A common photographic film was used. The exposed film was placed on a cylinder, which rotated at a i uniform speed with a like cylinder i with an unexposed film at New York. The transmission was accomplished by ■ means of a small, intense beam of light, the variation of which was eontrolled hv a current passing through > tho telephone wire. It is planned to use this apparatus during the Republican National Convention lierc in J .Tune.
