BEES AS PIRATES.
LONDON, March 11. A battle of hoes in a Somerset; gardan lias resulted in tlu- complete extermination of the peaceable occupants of one set of hives by piratical visitors from other hives in a neighl>ouring garde:!. The ha ttle lasted several days. The owner of the garden—Air AY. AYilson. of I lie Meat, St. Catherines, near Hath—seeing thousands of angry hoes buzzing about the garden, at first supposed they were early swarms. Tt was not until the conflict was over, when lie found practically all his hives tenantless and robbed by the pirates of all the honey and syrup, that ho realised what had happened. Countless slain Irens were then found in the garden. Only two hives remain to him. These are tenanted by broods of different and hardier stock, which were evidently able io fight off the attacking hordes.
