DEATH TO RABBITS.
A DEADLY BEST. SYDNEY, .May 7.
Keen interest is being taken by graziers in a new method of exterminating rabbits by the use of calcium cyanide dust’, and there was a large gathering at Wynudra. in North Queensland, last week to witness demonstrations itt a [mdlv infested area. "The method of rahhit destruction was entirely dill'ereut from any other previously tried. The material itself is m the form of line dust, anil is said to ho non-explosive and tioii-inlhimmahlc. It gives off no heat, and is non-cor-rosive. It is Mown with a strong Must, with a light knapsack type ol blower, with great rapidity through the main channels of the warren. Calcium cyanide dust is thus laid on all the main walls of the warren. This deposil of dust gives off hydro-cyanic acid over at least 21 lines, which factor is really responsible for the successful results secured. To appreciate this action fully it must be understood that calcium cyanide dust remains unchanged until exposed to the air. but upon exposure the chemical action releases the death-dealing gas. Ten warrens, both large and small, were treated, and those present were much impressed by the simplicity and speed with which the work was done. Keen criticism was exhibited when various points were under observation, and those present appeared satisfied with the economy anti simplicity of the method. Several warrens were tiallv dug out, and the dead rabbits found proved tho doodlincs.s of the PfP~
cess. Some of the warrens must have l,oen formed and occupied for over ‘-0 vears. and consequently the harrowwere deep and the time at the disposal o*' the demonstrators hein-' limited, ’t became impossible to die: them out completely. '
