Nnthii-g liner has been seen, and no cv-n: in Auckland Inis aroused greater enthu'-iasm than the march through the city this morning of 1500 men from the Special Service Squadron, headed l>v the hands of 11.M.5. Hood and Ii.M.S. Delhi. The pavements ami roofs of verandahs, windows and every spot of vantage was packed with cheering crowds. For once, .-it least, Aucklanders proved that they can display more than silent enthusiasm. The scene will live long in the memory of the spectators, particularly of the thousands ot children, who manifested the most intense interest and admiration.

The guard of honour tit 'Government House was provided hy men front the 11.M.5. Chatham.

Among those at the saluting base, with the Governor-General were: \ ieeAdmiral Field, Mr Massey, Commodore. Beal. Major-General Melvill. Colonel Potter, the Mayor and members of the City Council. Business was suspended during tlu- march.

A CALL AT SAMOA. WELLINGTON. May 13. Tim Imperial Service Squadron lias added another call to its long programme. It is intended on the journey from Suva to Hawaii to pass Samoa. on May 29th. and anchor off Apia, as near as possible, to enable the people of Western Samoa to see tlie great ships. It is expected that the New Zealand Administration and a large number of Europeans and natives will go out to the ships, and if tlie weather is fine, the men of the squadron will witness an interesting boating spectacle when the island whaleboats, with their forty rowers apiece, pul! out to i he licet.

A .MAORI WELCOME. ROTORUA, -May 13. Rear-Admiral the lion Sir Hubert Brand, twenty officers and three hundred men of the naval squadron arrived hy special train this afternoon, and were given addresses of welcome at the railway station hy the Mayor (Mr C .11. Clinkanl) and the Hon C. .1. Parr : Rear-Admiral Brand replying. A large crowd greeted the visitors.

The Admiral and some of the officers :it-e lodged at the Grand Hotel, the ether officers and all the men are at the King George Hospital. \i a Maori web-ome given this afternoon no jOhiiiemutu. speeches wore made by local chiefs. Another Maori welcome will lie given to-morrow morning at Whakarcwarewa.

The party loaves by the 1.20 p.nt train m-morrow.
