OUTCOME OK FRENCH ELECTIONS WHAT AMERICA KXPELTS. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION (Received tin's day at 9.25 n.m.) LONDON, .May I I The Washington correspondent of the “Times” says the opinion there is that the result of (he French elections will have a more important hearing on the rehahilitation of Europe than any development in recent months. It is considered that while the home issue defeated .M. Poincare there will yet he room for a sufficient modification of the Ruhr policy to permit an AngloF reach entente without which nothing is possible. It was feared that the growth of the Nationalist sentiment in (iermaiiy and the earns it had made at the elections would have produced a corresponding effect in France. Now this danger seems removed and interest turns on the effect on the German policy of development, which, in UnAmerican view, means substituting moderation and sanity for competition and sabotage. The hey to valuation, however, is still recognised to be the putting into operation of the experts’ plan. If this cannot lx; done without American help, then, equally, it cannot be done without determination on the part of France and Germany to liive the plan an holiest trial. Under -M. Poincare it was feared there would ; he obstacles. The tendency now is i towards greater optimism than lias t been felt for many months and to- i wards a correspondingly greater relief that next year there may be inter- i national conferences out of which European reconstruction may ultimately come.
