account of his youth. The prisoners '■•ill he sentence | to-morrow morning. BOY DROWNED. GISBORNE. .May 13. An inquest was held on Arthur Alalcolm. aged ten years, whose body was recovered yesterday. After evidence by deceased’s companion. aged nine years, that on May 2. they were on the Waimata River when their boat overturned. the Coroner said there was no evidence of skylarking, death being due to drowning, the result of the capsize of a canoe. He stressed the necessity fit learning to swim before going on the river.

At the Supreme Court. Gen. Arthur Kelly, aged 31, ex-medical student, and Richard Pohorra Edmonds appeared liefnre Judge Reid for sentence lor procuring abortion. In sentencing Kelly to three years with hard labour, followed by two years reformative detention, the Judge stated it was finite clear the prisoner was mixed up with another man, establishing the business of an abortionist. Edmonds, who was recommended to mercy by the jury, was sentenced to three months’ hard labour.
