Returns have bexm kept over the fir seven clays during which flic* new system lias been in operation and it is announced that during that ]eiiod there* were 898 messages from Xef.v Zealand to Australia and 108 from Australia to New Zealand. As the concession is practically unknown u.s yet. these li nil res are considered very satisfactory indeed. The messages cost .'is for a minimum of 20 words and 2d Lu c-a.-l, word in excess of 20. Transmission is effected cm the day of despatch and the* messages are delivered by post on the following morning. The department anticipates that- when the s“'t,. m becomes better known it will he used largely by business and the travelling public.
