AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CAM.K ASSOCIATION. A MAY L FAG CHAV ASHING TON, May 7. A French proposal for a new international order as an alternative to British suggestions to modify the 'I renty of Versailles was suggested at to-day’s session .of the Women's League for Peace and Freedom.
The French proposal, as supported hy most of the Kuropean seel ions of the League, would constitute a worldwide League of Peoples, representing consumers and producers ol all countries, to have legislative, executive and judicial powers, under which it could outlaw war and revise all treaties. It would command no armed forces, but would rely on public opinion for the enforcement of its laws.
The League would lie empowered to resolve concerning tin- question of reparations and intcr-Allied debts. to internationalise etiiTeiieies ami weights and moiisiires, to abolish till <'111«j111s tarilfs, to internationalise till sources of power and raw materials, giving every country access it possible. A world charter of labour would be compiled. The proposals were referred to a. committee to obtain the formal opinions of the different national sections.
